Fifty-five entries across four classes contested the third round of the Retro Karting Australia Oceania Series, the State Of Origin event at Albury.

Prize distribution: there were two sets of tyres awarded from DPE Kart Superstore, 4 x $50 CCNA Kartsport Vouchers, plus $200 from Sirius Homes ($150 to Ryan Aitken for winning F100 Pro and $50 to Jackson Evans for F100s ‘Best Move of the Weekend’).

F100

Running at ‘Pro’ weight, Anthony Sutej, Greg Ritter and Jackson Evens brought their karts home in 7th, 8th & 9th respectively in the final. Debutant in this class, Chris Sandrone, gradually worked on the set up to come home in 6th. Fifth place went to RKA first-timer Matthew Beninca, with an impressive drive. Paul Rodgers was super consistent in the final and secured fourth place, but was just off the pace of the podium getters.

Third on that F100 podium was the Tasmanian, Danton Evans, who also had the quick time in the final of a 41.661 second lap. That, however, wasn’t enough to beat the number #1 of Jason Pringle who started from the rear of field following a DNF in the pre-final, so to be 4th at the end of lap one was amazing and second place was well deserved. The win though, went to Ryan Aitken. The Victorian drove a fantastic race, even with two drivers right with him for over half the race – it was a truly impressive performance.

Clubman Light

Clubman Light saw Kevin Stray return to racing with RKA and achieving a fabulous 3rd place! Early leader Ian Beeraz, who took off at the front, held on until lap 8 when Travis Lichtenberger hunted him down to take the lead, and never look back. The Daddy Day Care team driver took the win with a 3.4 second margin at the chequered flag.

Clubman Super Heavy

This class was a real treat for the spectators! Fancied favourite Aaron Jackson unfortunately didn’t get past turn one after getting caught up in a coming together of several karts. This left South Australian Andrew Cash in a clear lead from which he never looked back, taking victory over a strong finish from the beardless wonder Leigh Everitt, who got within 2 1/2 seconds. The best performance of the final had to be the #72 of Bruce Otter. Not only returning from a horrifying roll over at Orange in which his helmet was destroyed, but he drove all the way from 7th on lap one all the way to the podium, taking third place.

Clubman Heavy

Having shown the sort of pace everyone knew he had, the final saw David Musgrave convert pre-race favourite status into comfortable victory by over four seconds. Drive Of the Day has to be from Adam Pisula. “Chunk” had a disastrous weekend until the pre-final where things started to come good. In the final he managed a very impressive second place. Double Duties for SA’s Andrew Cash who was on the podium for his second class, this time bringing home third place.
