There’s been a lot of talk about Masters getting onto the AKC program and lots of interesting and valid discussion around how that might happen, age brackets, weights, format etc.
Something that’s popped up several times in those discussions has been the opinion by some that Cadet 9 should be removed from the Australian Kart Championship.
This first-step class in karting (7 to 9 year olds) has been popular at AKC with very healthy fields. It has been a staple of the AKC since 2016.
But a number of commenters have expressed concern that Cadet 9 is part of a National Championship.
Karting Australia promotes the AKC as the “elite” level of karting in this country. This top level of the sport is a competitive, cut-throat environment that, it seems, some consider unsuitable for young people of Cadet 9 age.
