Supercar Showdown

To celebrate the return of the Repco Supercars Championship to Queensland Raceway in August, the Ipswich Kart Club has put together a “Supercar Showdown” event to be held on the Friday night, August 8.

“Thanks to Supercars, we have 25 three-day passes and merch packs to give away” the club posted.

“With the teams and drivers coming on board, there will be plenty of upcoming announcements of more prizes and hopefully a signing session with some of the drivers.”

Just four classes will be offered:

  • Cadet 12
  • KA3 Junior (championship weight)
  • TAG Restricted Light
  • TAG 125 (championship weight)

A unique qualifying format will be used – a short three flying laps session in which each competitor’s fastest lap will determine their starting position for heat 1, then their second fastest lap sets the grid for heat 2. The heats are 12 laps, and points earned determine the grid for a 14-lap final.

Qualifying will commence at 5.00pm, with racing to finish around 8.30pm.

A number of Supercar, Super 2 and Porsche Cup drivers will attend during the evening after they finish their Friday practice day down at Queensland Raceway.

“Why not make a weekend of it? Race on Friday night, maybe win some tickets or cool merch, camp at the track at night and head down to QR to watch the Supercars on Saturday and Sunday.”

Entries for the Supercars Showdown will open on Thursday the 17th of July at 6.00pm.
