Butcher Hits Banana

A near-perfect weekend for Sean Butcher went south when he “hit a banana peel” in the Senior MAX final at round 3 of the RMC Euro Trophy at Genk.

Butcher qualified second, was undefeated in the heats and won Pre-Final A. He and KR Sport teammate Omar Ghannoum (both on Kosmic) lead off the start of the final, but Butcher slid wide while leading, dropping to sixth. He managed to work his way back to third, but crossed the line fifth before a front fairing penalty resulted in 8th. Ghannoum took the win.

“Ah well… ” Butcher posted. “Dominated the whole week, but hit a banana peel going into the chicane in the final. Thankfully didn’t get Blue Shelled.”

Despite the drama in the final, Butcher now leads the championship on 474 points over Macauley Bishop (454) and Ties van Wijk (432). There is one round to go, at Sarno in September.
