Hamish Campbell: Academy Trophy Round 1 Wrap

Australian young gun Hamish Campbell kicked off his international campaign with a spirited performance in Round 1 of the 2025 FIA Karting Academy Trophy at the Circuito Internacional Lucas Guerrero in Valencia, Spain.

Despite a tough qualifying session due to mechanical issues with engine power, Hamish fought back in the heat races. A costly mistake and DNF in Heat 2 ultimately kept him from a potential third-row start in the final, but a standout top-5 finish and fastest lap in Heat 3 proved his pace. He advanced to 17th overall heading into the final.

In the main event, Hamish was caught in a wild opening lap, dropping positions before recovering strongly to cross the line 12th. Setting the 4th fastest lap of the race, he showed competitive speed, though a post-race penalty saw him classified 15th.

It’s a promising start for the 14-year-old from the Gold Coast, who showed composure, speed, and a willingness to fight through adversity in a field of 52 of the world’s best juniors.

As the FIA Academy heads to Mülsen, Germany for Round 2, Hamish will be aiming to build on this momentum and push further up the grid.
