Aussies Up Front @ Asia IAME

Australian Jay Kostecki took victory in the Cadet class and Darren Formosa did likewise in Masters at round 3 of the Inf1nity IAME Series Asia in Malaysia on the weekend.

Kostecki (Birelart Racing Asia) qualified second, won a heat, and started the Cadet final from P2. In yet another close and high-pressure race, Kostecki came out on top of an intense three-kart battle. Further back, Jackson Wood finished 12th and George Patrizi 14th.

Jay Kostecki, 1st in Cadet, now holds P2 in the championship

In Junior X30, Jack Larsen started the final off grid 2. After dropping to third at the start, he was quickly back into P2, but the damage was done and he was not able to bridge the gap to the winner, Italian Andrea Galimberti.

In Senior X30, Ky Burke qualified fourth and enjoyed a string of second places in the preliminary races to earn a P2 start for the final. In contention for the win, Burke was run wide, dropping back in the field and eventually finished 7th.

Meanwhile, Cooper Fysh finished 16th in the Senior final, having started P11.

The Masters drivers competed with the Seniors in the heat races, but held their own final. ‘Hollywood’ Formosa started P5 and after a dramatic 14 laps, the 59-year-old set fastest lap and crossed the line first. Unfortunately, a front fairing penalty dropped the Melbournian to P2, though he was awarded the trophy for leading Veteran.
