Kart Track Re-Opens

A refurbished karting circuit has re-opened in New Zealand. Westland Kart Club celebrated the occasion with a special ceremony that garnered support from fellow South Island kart club members.

The circuit was resurfaced and members had been working since November on the south corner to bring it up to the latest Kartsport NZ specs.

“It was great to be invited to the track reopening and see the awesome turnout from the surrounding clubs” KartSport New Zealand President Brent Melhop said.

“I was lucky enough to drive both a Briggs and a Rotax and managed to keep it on track. It was also great to see people from the Vintage club there with some amazing machinery as far back as the 1960s.”

The day also saw Life Membership awarded to Mike Anisay, who has been the Treasurer of Kartsport Westland and a club member since 1986 (39 Years!).

“It was an awesome day with lots of fun and the weather was perfect” Melhop added. “No sign of rain, blue skies, they sold out of food and the visitors had to park on the main road due to the number of people coming to have a look.”
