Big April at Morwell

The Gippsland Go Kart Club conducted its largest club day in many years on the weekend, 70 entries from around the state contesting the April race day on Sunday.

This was mostly due to competitors using the event for valuable track time prior to the next round of the Golden Power Series, but there was also an increased number of P-Platers and drivers returning to the sport from the local club.

The meeting commenced with a heartfelt thanks from Jeanette Monds at the Drivers’ Briefing for this the first meeting at Morwell since the recent passing of husband Graeme.

As usual, the format was three heats of 10 laps and finals of 12. Overnight rain and a track surface that took ages to dry saw practice and the opening heat run on a damp track. It was only into the second round that a full grid of slick-tyred karts would face the starter.
