At its meeting on 26th February 2025, the FIA World Motor Sport Council took the following decisions on the basis of proposals from the International Karting Commission.
Amendments to the Sporting Regulations
Driver eligibility for the OK-N and OK-NJ World Cups
In order to preserve the spirit of the OK-N and OK-NJ categories and to ensure a balanced and appropriate representation of national drivers, the eligibility criteria have been tightened. From now on:
- ASNs organising a national championship in these categories will receive priority allocation of three places for their top three ranked drivers between now and 31st July 2025.
- The top three finishers in the African Karting Cup will also benefit from priority entry.
- After 31st July, entries will be open to all, with the exception of drivers entered in the 2025 FIA Karting OK and Junior European and World Championships.
Closing of circuits before FIA competitions
To ensure fairness between competitors:
- Any circuit hosting an FIA Karting event must be closed to competition karts from the Monday to the Wednesday prior to the event.
- If a national or international event takes place there the previous weekend, the closure will be effective from the end of this event until the following Wednesday.
Amendments to the Technical Regulations
Specifications of the front fairing fixing system
In order to ensure the integrity of the front fairing fixing system and to standardise its installation:
- A minimum distance of 60.1mm between the lower and upper tubes of the front bumper is required.
- A gap of at least 1mm must be maintained between the edges of the mounting kit and the hook clamps securing the front fairing.
Reduction in the number of engines required for KZ homologation
To facilitate access to KZ engine homologation for small manufacturers, the minimum number of assembled engines to be presented at the homologation inspection has been reduced from 50 to 25 units.
Updated driver safety equipment
To reflect the latest FIA safety standards:
- Addition of the new FIA 8859-2024 and FIA 8859-2024 ABP helmet approvals.
- Inclusion of FIA standard 8878-2024.
- Clarification of the validity of existing standards, in particular the deadline of 31st December 2035 for helmets complying with standard FIA 8859-2015.
These changes come into force immediately and will apply to all the competitions concerned. The CIK-FIA remains committed to the continuous improvement of regulations to ensure fairer, more accessible and safer karting.
