The New Hall of Famers

Another four people were inducted into Karting Australia’s Hall of Fame at the 2025 Honours and Awards Dinner a couple of weeks back. Here’s some further background on each of the four:

by Karting Australia

Drew Price

Drew Price is a true pioneer of Australian karting.

From his early days as a talented young racer in the 1970s, Drew quickly rose to prominence, claiming six Australian Sprint and two Australian Road Race Championships. But his impact on the sport didn’t stop at the checkered flag.

In 1973, he founded Drew Price Engineering (DPE), a company that revolutionized karting in Australia. Under his leadership, DPE became a powerhouse, producing legendary brands like Arrow, Monaco, Ace, Demon, and Deadly Karts, used by racers both nationally and internationally. His engineering expertise and drive for innovation helped establish Australia as a global force in kart manufacturing.

Drew was also a trailblazer in proving that karting was the breeding ground for motorsport talent. In the 1980s, he became one of the first Australian karters recruited into Touring Cars, driving for Toyota, Peugeot, Glenn Seton Racing, and Nissan—paving the way for future generations to follow in his footsteps.

Beyond his racing and business success, Drew has been a passionate advocate for the sport, mentoring young drivers and supporting karting at all levels. His dedication, innovation, and leadership have left an enduring legacy that continues to shape the future of karting in Australia and beyond.

Welcome Drew Price into the Hall Of Fame!

Jamie Whincup

Our final induction for 2025, we celebrate an Australian motorsport icon whose journey to greatness began right here—in the world of karting.

Jamie Whincup may be best known as the most successful driver in Australian Supercars history, but his foundation was built on the kart tracks of Melbourne.

From the age of seven, Jamie showed a natural talent for racing, quickly rising through the ranks to claim multiple state and national karting titles. His years in karting weren’t just about winning; they shaped the discipline, race craft, and competitive mindset that would define his career. In the intense world of junior karting, Jamie honed his ability to adapt, push limits, and thrive under pressure—skills that later propelled him to the pinnacle of Australian motorsport.

Karting was the launchpad that took him to Formula Ford, Supercars, and eventually to seven Supercars Championships and four Bathurst 1000 victories. But no matter how high he climbed, Jamie never forgot his roots, always acknowledging the vital role that karting played in his journey.

His story is a testament to the power of grassroots motorsport. From a young karter with big dreams to a record-breaking champion, Jamie Whincup’s career proves that karting is where future legends are made.
