Street Meet Memories

Who remembers when the authorities would close the Princes Highway in Bairnsdale, Victoria, each year so that karters could race in front of massive crowds through the streets of the CBD?

For those who were lucky enough to be involved in “street meets”, great memories endure. It’s an experience that modern karters are unlikely to have – unless they go somewhere like Las Vegas SuperNats (not a true ‘street meet’ – it’s in a car park) or the Quincy Grand Prix (but that track is so dangerous, it’s seniors only).

Anyway, the Bairsndale Kart Club is holding a reunion to reminisce about the legendary annual street meetings and the history of the local club.

It will be held at the Bairnsdale RSL (New Room) on May 3rd, from 4pm to 8pm.
