FIA Karting Decisions

A “senior’ Academy Trophy for 14 to 16-year olds is just one of the decisions to come from the FIA World Motor Sport Council’s meeting last week (is it somewhat crazy that 14-year-olds are considered Senior by the FIA?).

Based on proposals from the International Karting Commission, there was little in the way of public explanation around the decisions.

These decisions, plus the 2025 FIA Karting Calendar, are below:

FIA Karting Academy Trophy for Senior drivers

Following the success of the FIA Karting Academy Trophy launched in 2010 for Junior drivers, an FIA Karting Academy Trophy – Senior has been created for drivers aged 14 to 16.

World Cup For OK-N Junior

An FIA Karting World Cup – OK-NJ will be held as a one-off event in parallel with the FIA Karting World Cup – OKN at Cremona, Italy in September. National Championships run by ASNs for these categories will be allocated three places for the highest-ranked drivers on 31st July. These places may not be transferred to drivers finishing outside the top three. After this date, the registration procedure will be open to all other drivers.

Numbers Cap for European OK and Junior Championships

A maximum 108 drivers will contest the OK and Junior categories in the European Championship. A reserve list will be drawn up if the CIK-FIA receives more applications than places available. Drivers who have submitted a complete file and paid the entry fee will be considered in the order in which they are received by the CIK-FIA secretariat (date and time of receipt of the “Completed” e-mail notification).

Pre-Event Track Closure

Circuits for FIA Karting competition will be closed to all competition karts and drivers from Monday to Wednesday of the week in which the competition takes place. Events can take place at the host circuit the week-end before the FIA Karting competitions, without restriction of participation.
