Country Trail Runs Together at Horsham

Round 7 of the 2024 Victoria Country Trail for 4SS, proudly supported by DPE Kart Superstore, SP Tools, Torini and Maxxis Tires has been run and won!

The round was run alongside the Wimmera Kart Club’s September club day. With 21 4SS entries and a smaller track it was decided that classes would not be separated. Instead, a fastest-to-slowest grid saw some great close racing.

Rain Sunday morning threw a spanner in the works as set ups and wet tyres where attached.

Qualifying was set with the biggest surprise saw Heavy Andrew Hall qualify P2. In Heat 1 on the green flag he broke a throttle cable but still finishing back in p14. South Australian Wesley Bowden took P1 over Brayden Slama in a close battle.

Heat 2 saw a messy start and Shaun Clover clashed wheels with another competitor and then went end-for-end, breaking his neck brace and knocking some skin off. This caused a red flag and an immediate return to the pits for a restart. Shaun’s shaking but medically fine and kart looks fine also!

The 50-lap final witnessed some really close racing with plenty of lead changes and battles. The top six ran nose to tail but with eventual winner, Mediums’ Wesley Bowden, taking the top spot with fellow South Aussie Will Stephenson second and Brayden Slama finishing 3rd.

In Lights, Marcellus Strangis had won all three previous heats, but got caught up with a lap 44 accident with Justin Yuen who took the honours over Ben Caruso and Geoff Whyburn.

Heavies saw Andrew Hall take victory over Jake Holland (who’s wheel was about to fall off with just one wheel nut
still attached) and Nathan Daley third.

The final will be at Hamilton Kart Club on October 27.
