Ipswich Championship Round 6

by Russell Innes, IKC

After the completion of Round 6 of the Ipswich Kart Club Championships on the 7th of September, there are only 2 more Rounds to go and most of the club championships have clear leaders, but a few class championships are still up for grabs and there will certainly be some fantastic battles for the championship podium placings.

Jaxon Duong had a fantastic day in 4SS Junior winning 2 of the 3 Heats and then the Final convincingly and has now established a comfortable championship lead from Jaxon Turner who finished 3rd but had been closing the points with wins in the last 2 Rounds. Hudson Lippiat was strong all day to finish 2nd. Hamish Douglas is still holding on to 3rd in the Championship, but Jack Doull and Jaydee Chapman are still within range of catching him.

In KA3 Junior Light, Jye Flynn is leading the Club Championship battle and consolidated his championship lead with 2 Heat wins and the win in the Final over his main championship challenger Annabel Kennedy. Kennedy had a strong day and has now firmly established 2nd place in the championship ahead of Basilo Micale and Ryan Reid and Tyson McGill still mathematically with a chance to finish top 3 for the year. McGill finished 3rd for the day and will seriously challenge Micale and Reid for 3rd in the championship over the remaining 2 Rounds. Others to figure prominently at this Round included Poppi Rule with a fantastic 4th place in the Final ahead of Hamish Campbell in 5th.

KA3 Junior Light podium – Aidan Hackwood Group 3 Winner, Tyson McGill 3rd, Jye Flynn 1st, Annabel Kennedy 2nd, Poppi Rule Group 2 Winner.

Tyson McGill had a really strong day in KA3 Junior Heavy with 2 Heat wins and a win in the Final over Jye Flynn and has now established a big championship lead, over Will Carmichael who finished 4th on the day. Tyler Tilmouth has been very consistent the last couple of rounds and with his 5th place finish he has established a small margin in the battle for 3rd in the championship.

Matthew Price, Talea Kiddle and Brieann Moyse are locked in an incredible battle for 3rd in the championship.

The TAG Restricted Light Championship had a huge shakeup with previous championship leader Jack Munro missing this Round and Thomas Williams, Robert Mortensen and Riley Van den Broek took advantage and have now all gone past Munro in points. Alester Flack has been unbeaten in Finals so far this year in the Club Championship and has established a massive lead in the Cadet 12 Class. He further cemented that lead with another win in the Final to now go to a massive 400 plus points lead. His nearest challenger Zander Watts had an up and down day with a Heat win but then a rollover and dropped a lot of points to Flack, whilst Jeremy Broadbent finished the day in 3rd and now has moved into 3rd in the Championship just narrowly ahead of Blake Haigh. Michael Quintilliani finished 2nd in the Final and after missing 2 Rounds early in the year has moved up to 5th in the Championship.

With another Finals win in Cadet 9, Riccardo Johnston has now established a massive championship lead, well clear of Oliver Flack who finished 2nd in the Final and was unlucky with an engine that played up over the last few laps whilst leading Johnston and only losing the race on the last lap. Luke Robinson finished 3rd on the day and is now 6th in the Championship, but the big battle is for 3rd in the Championship as Jacob Brook-Lenehan and Fredrick Wuoti are tied on points, with Scarlett Mitrovic only a few points behind these two.

Ipswich Kart Club has a massive amount of new Cadet drivers practising and now starting to race, so the popular Cadet P Class was reintroduced on to the programme for this club round and will remain on the programme for the rest of the club championship rounds. The Cadet 12P battle at the front was very entertaining all day with Finn Hackwood, Conor O’Hehir and Sebastian Woodrow putting on a display of driving that was impressive for how inexperienced they are. Hackwood won Heats 1 and 3, whilst O’Hehir won Heat 2, with Woodrow very close to these two. In the Final all 3 put on a brilliant battle for the lead, but O’Hehir was just able to hang on from Hackwood and Woodrow.

Cadet 12P podium – 3rd Sebastian Woodrow, 1st Conor O’Hehir, 2nd Finn Hackwood

Jackson Podmore, Vincent Missen, Alfie Doyle and Lucas Shepley were the pacesetters in Cadet 9P during the day, but Podmore would win the Final after a great battle with Shipley. Missen got the better of the battle with Doyle for 3rd.

Cadet 9P podium – 3rd Vincent Missen, 1st Jackson Podmore, 2nd Lucas Shepley
The Cadet P-Platers set to go on track.

Brock Plumb had a dominant day in TAG Heavy, winning all 3 Heats and the Final ahead of Brent Reading and Will Marshall. Christopher Williams though still maintains a big championship lead after finishing 4th. Bradley McNaught was 5th and is locked in a huge battle for 2nd in the Championship with Jumpie Morita, Marshall, Reading and Josh Dagg all very close on points.

TAG Heavy podium – 3rd Will Marshall, 1st Brock Plumb, 2nd Brent Reading

The TAG Light field was down on its usual numbers, but the Championship frontrunners were all in attendance. Jack Wells consolidated his Championship lead with 2nd behind Max Walton in the Final. Jordi Slater was 3rd in the Final but has now consolidated himself in 2nd in the Championship with Trent Newton now 3rd in the Championship.

Scott Cleveland has edged away to a reasonably comfortable lead in the DD2 Club Championship with a strong showing with 2 Heat wins and the Final. Adam Wood won the other Heat and 2nd in the Final and has now got himself comfortably in 2nd in the Championship. Jason Smith had a good day to finish 3rd in the Final and has now moved from 5th to 3rd in the Championship.
