Review: 2022 Texas Sprint Racing Series

Superkarts! USA and International Kart Federation regional champions recognized

The eighth season of the Texas Sprint Racing Series presented by Auctionetx was completed in 2022, welcoming record numbers over the five-event schedule. The Superkarts! USA and International Kart Federation sanctioned regional series welcomed nearly 900 entries on the season in IAME, Briggs & Stratton 206, and Honda categories, deciding nine year-end champions while providing thousands in awards and prizes.

The KA100 Senior by Exertech category averaged over 35 drivers each round of the 2022 Texas Sprint Racing Series program. Alex Stanfield was able to claim the victory at three of the five rounds to secure the series championship by 39 points. Stanfield earned a SKUSA SuperNationals 25 Race Entry with race tires along with a 2023 TSRS Series Package. Defending series champion Peyton Phillips claimed one victory along with three other podium finishes to end up second in the standings. He claimed a 2022 IKF Grand National Entry with race tires along with 2023 TSRS Race Entry with race tires for two events. Aden Rudolph celebrated his first Senior season with a victory and one other podium finish to place third in the year-end championship chase. Rudolph was awarded a 2022 IKF Grand National Race Entry and a 2023 TSRS Race Entry with race tires for one event. Fellow rookie Brayden Robertson was fourth while Drew Chappell rounded out the top-five.

It was a strong season for the KA100 Junior by 4T Concrete Pumping class, featuring on average over 25 drivers each weekend and four different winners across the five rounds of racing. Helio Meza was the only driver to win twice on the season, including the series final with a sweep and two runner-up performances to claim the year-end championship. He earned a SKUSA SuperNationals 25 Race Entry with race tires along with a 2023 TSRS Series Package. Round Four victor Landon Skinner finished on the podium three times on the season to claim the second spot in the standings along with a 2022 IKF Grand National Entry with race tires along with 2023 TSRS Race Entry with race tires for two events. A close third was Cooper Shipman, a winner at Round Three with two podium results. He was awarded a 2022 IKF Grand National Race Entry and a 2023 TSRS Race Entry with race tires for one event. Diego Guiot and Santiago Duran completed the top-five in the year-end standings.

One of the more exciting classes of the season was the 206 Senior by Cruz Racing Development division which welcomed over 21 drivers each weekend. Braxden Tregre stood on the podium at all five rounds, including the season opener and used victory at the final two rounds to secure the series championship by 225 points. The battle for second went down to the wire with Round Three winner Tyler Stephens edging out Ethan Wolfe by eight points. Caiden Wolfe was a close fourth, back by five points with Round Two winner Kelvin Xing completing the top-five in the championship. Tregre won a 2022 IKF Grand Nationals Race Entry with two sets of race tires along with a 2023 TSRS Series Package. Stephens earned a 2022 IKF Grand National Race Entry with one set of race tires along with 2023 TSRS Race Entry with race tires for two events. Ethan Wolfe was awarded a 2022 IKF Grand Nationals Race Entry and 2023 TSRS Race Entry with race tires for one event.

The KA100 Master class by Kart Racing Solutions featured record numbers all year, averaging just under 20 drivers each round. The championship ended the same with defending champ Miguel Mier standing on the podium all five rounds, including two wins, to claim the year-end title. Mier earned a SKUSA SuperNationals 25 Race Entry with race tires along with a 2023 TSRS Series Package. It was a close battle with two-time winner Robby Mott, also earning four podiums on the season, coming up just 15 points short in the point standings. Mott was awarded a 2022 IKF Grand National Entry with race tires along with 2023 TSRS Race Entry with race tires for two events. James Lundberg had two podium finishes of his own to claim third in the championship and a 2022 IKF Grand National Race Entry along with a 2023 TSRS Race Entry with race tires for one event. Morgan LeBron and Vincent Climent rounded out the point standings for 2022.

Cadet racing featured over 15 drivers in all three categories for the 2022 Texas Sprint Racing Series program. Tyler Roberts claimed the series championship in the Mini Swift by Alan Rudolph Racing Academy class. Roberts stood on the podium three times, including a win at Round Three to edge out Gage Bailey for the title. Bailey won the series finale and was also runner-up twice on the season. Derek Wargo was only 36 points out of the top spot in third with his three race string of podium results to end the season. David Ybarra finished the year in fourth with Emmett Eddolls in fifth for the point standings. Roberts earned a SKUSA SuperNationals 25 entry with race tires along with a 2023 TSRS Series Package. Bailey earns a 2023 TSRS Race Entry with race tires for two events while Wargo earns the same for one event.

The Micro Swift by Houston Freightliner / Western Star class welcomed five different winners over the five rounds in 2022, along with over 17 drivers each weekend. Paxton Dyson won the series opener and finished the year at the top of the championship standings thanks to his three other podium results. Only 15 points back was Round Five winner Aston Wyatt, placing second in the championship with a streak of three podium finishes to close out the year. Colton Schniegenberg won Round Three, earning one additional podium result to finish third in the standings. Alex Chandler was runner-up twice on the season, ending up fourth while Emerson Laine had one podium finish to round out the top-five in the championship chase. Dyson earned a SKUSA SuperNationals 25 entry with race tires along with a 2023 TSRS Series Package. Wyatt earns a 2023 TSRS Race Entry with race tires for two events while Schniegenberg earns the same for one event.

Jaxon Young used a three-podium streak at the end of the year to claim the championship in the 206 Cadet by Ferris Mowers division. Young won Round Three and finished on the steps at the final two events to win the title by 63 points. Derek Wargo made it close, earning three podium results on the season, including two wins in the final two rounds. Paxton Dyson was third in the final standings, earning one podium finish over five rounds. Brayden Westfall and Aston Wyatt complete the top-five in the standings for 2022. Young won a 2022 IKF Grand Nationals Race Entry with two sets of race tires along with a 2023 TSRS Series Package. Wargo earned a 2022 IKF Grand National Race Entry with one set of race tires along with 2023 TSRS Race Entry with race tires for two events. The 206 Junior class by Saville Electric averaged 13 competitors each weekend for the Texas Sprint Racing Series 2022 season. Ragan Saville was at the front for the first four events of the season with his four victories helping him to claim the series championship in his rookie Junior year. Sawyer Roussel stood on the podium three times, including victory at the series finale to finish second in the standings. Third was Jenson Harrell, a runner-up in the final two events on the year. Shelby Ramirez finished the year in fourth with Alfred Alvarez del Castillo in fifth thanks to two podium results. Saville won a 2022 IKF Grand Nationals Race Entry with two sets of race tires along with a 2023 TSRS Series Package. Roussel earned a 2022 IKF Grand National Race Entry with one set of race tires along with 2023 TSRS Race Entry with race tires for two events. Harrell was awarded a 2022 IKF Grand Nationals Race Entry and 2023 TSRS Race Entry with race tires for one event.

Dutch Westbrook is the 2022 Texas Sprint Racing Series champion in the Honda Kid Karts by Helix Electric category. Westbrook won the opening two rounds before finishing on the podium one more time to claim the series championship by only 25 points. He earns a 2023 TSRS Series Package and one set of tires. Theodore Mitchell visited the podium three times as well, winning once, to end up second in the championship standings to claim a 2023 TSRS Race Entry with race tires for two events. One point back of him was Andrew Anastasio, a two-time winner and podium finisher three times as well. Mitchell earns a 2023 TSRS Race Entry with race tires for one event. Brody Stoffle made it four drivers on the season to stand on the podium three times, ending the championship in fourth with Brennan Barsch completing the standings in fifth.

The 2023 edition of the Texas Sprint Racing Series is set for another five event program. The season begins with the opening round at the NOLA Motorsports Park in Avondale, Louisiana as a SKUSA Pro Tour WinterNationals Warm-up. The series takes the month of April off before heading to the Speedsportz Racing Park on May 26-28 in New Caney, Texas to compete ‘Under the Lights’. Race three of 2023 takes the program back to the Amarillo Kart Circuit in Panhandle, Texas on June 30-July 2. The series then takes a trip west to visit the Rimrock Raceway in Odessa, Texas for the first time in program history on August 4-6. The September 15-17 weekend is scheduled for the series final weekend, with a location to be announced in the coming days.

Registration for the 2023 Texas Sprint Racing Series program is currently open. Competitors can sign up for all five events at one time, at $1,020 per class. Series Season Entry includes entry and driver band for each of the five events, and a FREE set of tires to be picked up at the first race. Series Season Entry deadline is February 14.

The series is also welcoming interest in additional classes for the 2023 season. Options include 206 Masters, 206 Heavy or shifter – the series is asking for a minimum of 10 drivers to be considered.
