Archie Bristow made his first ever trip to the Rochester Kart Club over the weekend for the August Club Day/Golden Power Series shakedown event.
Bristow has had a huge month and season taking multiple open victories and proving to be one of the best karters in the state. Archie had a strong field of 10 drivers to contend with across the days racing.
Qualifying was first up due to the large number of entries for the meet, so Archie was heading out with no laps turned of the circuit. The Bridgeswade Pools and Spas sponsored entry jumped into the top 5 but was still learning the tough Rochester circuit. With Bristow improving every lap across the session, the young star was able to stop the clock in 3rd position overall and the inside of row 2 for the opening heats.
Bristow was able to get an excellent start in the opening heat and jump to position 2 on the opening lap. The M J Pressure and Property Works backed entry was in a 3-way battle at the front, swapping positions multiple times. Archie was in position 2 going into the final lap with a close battle and finish resulting in position 2 overall with the fastest lap of the race.
Heat 2 was the next race up for Archie and the young driver was able to slot into position 3 at the conclusion of the opening lap. The Panduit City of Melbourne Titles champion was right on the back of the top 3 and was improving with the more driving he did around the circuit. The race was another cracking battle between the top 3 as Bristow was able to come home in position 3.
Bristow was now off the front row of the grid and was looking to get a clean get away. The Bridgeswade Pools and Spas supported entry set himself into position 3 in the opening half of the race before being able to move his way into 2nd spot on lap 5. Archie was showing excellent speed and was able to take the lead in the back stages taking his first victory of the weekend!
Archie was off the front row once again and was looking to finish his day on a high. The M J Pressure and Property Works sponsored entry was able to take the lead on the opening lap. Bristow didn’t look back from there, leading every lap and taking a near 4 second victory! This was enough to get Archie top points for the day and take the round win!
Archie’s father Matthew spoke post weekend on the development and speed of his young driver. “Archie always gets excited when we go to a new track for the first time and Rochester did not disappoint. Was challenging going straight into qualifying without any practice but actually made for an even more rewarding day.
“Archie struggled with two of the corners in qualifying and heat 1, he knew he wasn’t getting it right and continued to try a different approach to gain the valuable couple of tenths he needed. Half way through heat 2 he nailed it and pace dramatically improved. Before heat 3 kicked off he felt comfortable that he now had the pace to go on and win. Heat 3 and the Final he showed what he could do setting the fastest laps and taking the wins.
“Our little lad just loves to race. We both really enjoyed the day at Rochester great track and atmosphere. We look forward to racing there again soon”.
Bristow will be back at the circuit next weekend for the 5th round of the Golden Power Series.
