Driver PR: Liam Pollard, ELKC Race Day

Liam Pollard took to the final round of the Eastern Lions Kart Club Championship over the weekend to round out his season.

Pollard has had an interrupted season due to the multiple COVID enforced breaks in Victoria. Pollard running in the TAG 125 Heavy class, was looking to finish the year on a high and looked to Sunday morning qualifying to do that. Pollard headed out on a cold and greasy Eastern Lions circuit with a strong field of TAG 125 Heavy drivers to deal with. The DSI Engineering powered X30 motor was showing good pace and was giving Liam the power to be right in the battle for pole position. Pollard after a hard fought session, in his final meeting of the year was able to put his kart on pole position and had him out of the best possible spot for the opening heat in the TAG 125 Heavy class.

Liam was looking to continue his strong start to the weekend in heat one. Pollard was able to get the jump off the start and lead the field to round out the opening lap. The Hafele Australia backed entry put in a faultless opening heat leading every lap and convert pole to a heat one victory. The team were happy with the great start to the weekend and looked to continue this into the rest of the races.

Pollard unfortunately didn’t get the best get away in heat two dropping the lead off the start. Liam made his way back up into second position overall and was chasing after race leader Nicholas Roberts for the win. Pollard threw everything he had at Roberts setting the fastest lap in his chase for the lead with the margin coming down under a second. In a strong fight back Liam crossed the line in second position with the battle to resume in heat three.

Pollard led out of the opening lap but Roberts took the lead on lap two, continuing the battle between the two. With fastest lap’s being traded and two young drivers throwing everything at it, an awesome third heat was on display. The Hafele Australia sponsored entry closed within half a second of the race leader but came home in second position overall.

The stage was set for an epic final in the TAG 125 Heavy final. With the final getting underway Pollard was able to slot into second spot, right on the back of the race leader with the battle underway for victory. With once again fast laps being traded, both Roberts and Pollard were in for a chance at victory. The Hafele Australia backed entry set the fastest lap of the race and got within two tenths of the race leader. In an epic close finish, Pollard just missed on out the race and round victory, coming home in position two on the podium.

Liam spoke post-race of a hectic weekend. “Really nice to be back racing. I’m still getting the hang of the x30 but I had some good guys to race with”.

Liam’s father Cameron echoed his sons thoughts on the drivers on the day. ”Good clean racing this weekend from the guys. We’re looking forward to the new class with a full season ahead in the Victorian Country Series and Golden Power Series in 2022”.
