New Organisers For Rock Island Grand Prix

A new organising partner has been announced for the annual Rock Island Grand Prix.

National Karting Alliance will partner with local committees to ensure the event continues with success into the future.

The 2020 edition has been cancelled due to covid, but is scheduled to return on September 4 and 5 in 2021.

“Our awesome local organization has steered this event to great success through many twists and turns both locally and in the sport of karting,” said Grand Prix president Roger Ruthhart.

“But after 25 years many of our committee members are getting older. Our younger members have made great commitments but also have commitments to jobs, families and racing that make picking up more duties difficult.”

“Joe Janowski and his NKA team will help raise the event to the next level. Their involvement with others series, tracks and race teams will provide the knowledge and input necessary to keep Rock Island headed in the right direction.”

The event celebrated its 25th Anniversary race in 2019.

Rock Island is licensed through the United States Auto Club (USAC) and is on the ACCUS calendar so that drivers from any country can compete. There have been drivers from 8 foreign countries and 13 foreign winners.
