Zap Spark Plug Tester

Mike Abay, father of former KartStars front runner and now race car driver Michael-Sam, has informed KartSportNews.com that he is the Australian distributor for the “ZAP” Spark Plug Tester. This hand-held device can test spark plugs - new and secondhand - to ensure they are not the cause of any tuning or performance problems.

Mike Abay - "When was the last time anyone saw a spark plug tester? As I am from the 'old-school' our workshop had one. It was bolted to the wall. It had to have an airline connected to it and it was the size of a small car – not exactly portable. The present generation probably doesn’t even know that there was such a thing.

Now, I have a pocket sized unit.

I have been using it all year. I don’t leave home without it. We use it when we go karting; we use it racing the Porsche 944 and we use it racing Formula 3.

Quite simply, if you race anything with a spark plug, the spark plug tester is an absolute must. Powered by two AA batteries, the unit is not much larger than a couple of ipods."

The “ZAP” Spark Plug Tester sells for $295 which includes GST and delivery, anywhere in Australia.

But why would you use a spark tester?

  • Even with brand new plugs, you can end up with a dud
  • You can check the performance of your plugs between races
  • You can choose the right heat range and plug gap to suit the weather conditions
  • You can check your mixture to select the heat range
  • You can check your plug gap for maximum performance
  • You can compare the spark output between different brands

If your engine is missing… which cylinder is it? Could it be the plug? You wouldn’t know without the ZAP Spark Plug Tester.

Mike has a limited supply of these testers and can be contacted on 0418 175 911 or email kabay@bigpond.net.au
