Over the weekend of 25th and 26th October 2014, Dubbo Kart Club played host to the finals of the 2014 Southern Star Series.  134 competitors made the trek to Dubbo to battle it out over three 6 lap heats, a 9 laps prefinal and 11 lap final.

The meeting was held in blistering heat pushing the mercury to 37degs on both days, with no rain or breeze to cool things down.  The racing on the track was almost as hot as the temperature with 17 classes being run across 11 events, a number of red flag incidents were seen with some karters certainly coming out the worse for wear and keeping officials busy.

The first event saw four Clubman Light and nine Clubman Superheavy combine on track, with some biff and barge from the front runners. Nick Riley (Dubbo) managed to scrape home with the win in the lights ahead of current State Champion Alex Waters (Port Mac) and Leon Mramor (Newcastle).  Clubman Super Heavy saw Paul Scibberas (Combined) take out the top spot ahead of Graham Winnel (Griffith) and Craig Tailby (Dubbo).

Next out the gate were Restricted Light and Heavy; Josh Behn (Dubbo) took out the light category in a one horse race.  Greg Woolner (Griffith) won the heavy class with Josh Grouch (Albury) second and Greg Parker (Wagga) in third.

Junior National Light saw some great close racing with 12 racers entering the class. Dubbo’s Tyler Everingham took a clean sweep to take out the class ahead of Darcy Inwood (Bathurst) and Cameron Longmore (Wagga).

The largest of the Senior classes saw Senior National Light with 14 entries combine with 4 from Senior National Heavy. Some great racing was seen in the class with the front runner regularly swapping for the lead through-out the weekend.  A clean sweep from Jarrod Whitty (Griffith) saw him climb to the top of the podium with Nick Riley (Dubbo) backing up from Clubman Light to take out second and Stewart Weigand (Griffith) in third).  Brent Dickson from Orange took the spoils in the heavy class with Braden Boots (Griffith) in second and Dustin Burns (Orange) in third.

Open Performance were next out the gate with the DD2’s battling it out with the 6spd monsters.  Dean Starling (North Shore) took out the light category ahead of Marc Townsend (Grenfell) and Peter Hollings (North Shore).  In the heavies Daniel Orsini (North Shore) took the spoils ahead of Robert Harnas (Grenfell) and Ediie Ruiz (Canberra).

The next event saw TAG Light, Heavy and Superheavy combine for some close and interesting racing.  Jarrod Whitty (Griffith) backed up from his clean sweep of Senior National Light to do the same in TAG Light ahead of Alex Waters (Port Mac) and Chris Cooper (Canberra).  Heavy saw Michael Dunbar (Bathurst) take a clean sweep in front of Andrew Hemphill (Canberra) and Ashley Woolner (Griffith).  TAG Super heavy saw two competitors battle it out with Ryan Van Ree (Albury) beating Bradley Foran (Orange) with three wins to two.

Clubman Heavy saw long time entrant at Dubbo, Michael Harris (Gunnedah), finally grab a victory ahead of hometown hero Chirs ‘Old Man’ Riley who finished just infront of Nicholas Cooley (Goulburn) in third.

Junor Clubman was next to see the track with Dubbo’s Tyler Everingham adding the first place to his win in Junior National Light.  Joshua Hemphill (Canberra) finished second ahead of Jack Dare (Wagga) in third.

The biggest class of the weekend saw 18 entrants take on Lincoln County Raceway in the Cadet class.  With some great racing across the entire field, Jaiden Pope (Wollongong) took another clean sweep to claim the top spot ahead of Joshua Sargent (Grenfell) and Josh Haynes (Canberra).

Junior National Heavy was the second last class on to the circuit with some great entertaining racing across the weekend culminating an exhilarating final which saw Luke Wrigley (Dubbo) do enough to hang onto the top spot ahead of Hayden Cox (Manning) and Jack Dare (Wagga) in third.

The final class saw 14 entrants battle it out in the Rookies, current closed State champion Thomas Sargent (Grenfell) stood on the top of the podium joined by Cody Burcher (Orange) in second and Zac Heard (North Shore) in third.
