Surf's Up For CRG Australia

press release 21 October 2014

CRG Australia has paired with five-time World Champion Davide Forè to secure victory at the Race of Stars as a part of the V8 Superfest on the Gold Coast.

Forè had a perfect race day after setting the fastest qualifying time and winning all three heats before crossing the line first in the final to secure the prestigious surfboard trophy.  Joining him on the podium was New Zealander Daniel Bray and Forè’s fellow Italian and CRG driver for the event, Lorenzo Camplese.

Camplese shadowed his CRG stable-mate for the opening few laps of the final before finding his way into the lead as they raced at speeds in excess of 160 km/h around the Xtreme Karting Facility.

It wasn’t long however before Forè’s class shone to the fore taking over the front running on lap six.  As Forè began to show his supremacy at the front Camplese then fell back into the clutches of the likes of New Zealand Champion Daniel Bray.

With two laps remaining Bray moved into the runner-up placing while Forè held a commanding lead and crossed the line 1.5 seconds clear of the New Zealander in his GP Kart.  Camplese held on for third ahead of Belgium driver Jonathan Thonon.

Forè second visit to Australia couldn’t have been any better, “We’re very happy with the result, Darren, my mechanic Mattia and everyone in Team CRG worked very hard after we blew an engine in practice yesterday, so this is pleasing,” Forè said.

“We came to Australia to win and give the people a show, I think we did that.”

For CRG Australia Team Manager Darren King, the opportunity to have a driver of Forè’s calibre work with the team was inspirational.

“We pride ourselves on a high quality of work here and continually improving ourselves at CRG Australia, to be able to have someone of Davide’s experience work with us was just amazing,” said King.

“The victory was a result of everyone’s hard work, not just this weekend but all in the lead-up to the event.  We had some issues on Friday during practice but everyone worked together to give Davide the best possible opportunity at victory.”
