Fires & Floods Can't Stop Numurkah

Goulburn Valley Kart Club must be the unluckiest kart club in Australia. The club’s track and surrounds was first flooded in March 2012 and then a year later, in early 2014, the club’s track and surrounds were torched in the Wunghnu complex fires.
The club has overcome the turbulent few years and will again host its biggest meeting of the year on September 19-21. The Australasian Kart Titles is expected to attract 170 entries for the three day meeting and offers drivers the chance to win a prestigious colour kart plate for those classes not elsewhere recognised as a national championship class.
Winners of each class will win the right to display a prestigious red number plate, confirming they are a champion of their class.
Club president Wayne Gilligan said the Titles were well respected within the karting community.
“We invite all Karters and spectators to come and enjoy a great weekend of racing.”
The Numurkah raceway has hosted the Australasian titles since 1991 but in the past two years has relied on its members to attend countless working bees to restore the track surface, track safety barriers and clear debris as the flood, then fire, left a damaging trail.
Kart drivers will descend on the Numurkah track from across Australia, and compete in up to 17 classes, from the youngest seven-year-old drivers in Cadets, to teenagers in Junior National and senior drivers, including those over 40, in TAG and Sportsman.
Practice for the titles will begin on Friday, with qualifying on Saturday morning. Two heats will be held for drivers on Saturday afternoon and another on Sunday morning before the afternoon’s 20 lap final.
The Numurkah track is 532m with eight technical corners. Drivers can reach speeds of up to 80km/ph.
Entry to the Australasian Titles is free for spectators who are sure to enjoy this action packed event. The Numurkah Raceway is located on the Numurkah-Katamatite Road (C361) and only a short 3km drive east of the Numurkah Hospital. The canteen is open from 6am for breakfast on Saturday until the last chequered flag on Sunday.
