Ojeda Seeking To Extend Series Lead at Coffs Harbour

press release 17 July 2014

Sydney’s Jayden Ojeda will be looking to consolidate upon his 2014 Rotax Pro Tour results so far by increasing his lead in the Junior Max series standings at this weekend’s seventh and final round of the season at Coffs Harbour, the first time the Championship has visited the northern New South Wales track.

After starting the heats in third and taking a win in the first race of the weekend, Jayden went on to take second for the weekend overall at Puckapunyal at the latest round of the CIK Stars of Karting Championship, helping him to the series lead in KF3 by just seven points with two rounds remaining in the year at Newcastle and Todd Road in Melbourne.

“We had a good finish to the last round of CIK at Puckapunyal taking second and it has helped us into the series lead there also, it’s only seven points separating me and Bryce (Fullwood) so it’s going to be a very close battle at the next round at Newcastle which is a track I have had a lot of success at in the past so I’m feeling pretty confident,” Ojeda said.

This weekend will see the first time the Rotax Pro Tour has held one of its rounds at the Coffs Harbour track and recent testing at the venue has Jayden confident that he can continue his successful run through the season, with the track assured to provide close racing in the large Junior Max field.

“I’m looking forward to hitting the track on Friday at Coffs Harbour, the track will definitely produce some close racing and it’s another big Junior Max field so that will make it even more interesting. The racing at the front is tight so qualifying will be crucial to get a good starting position for the heats which will really set the scene for how the weekend will play out,” Ojeda added.

Only two events remain in the 2013/2014 Rotax rankings season inclusive of this weekend with the Rotax Nationals culminating the year at Ipswich in September and this has Ojeda focussing on securing top results in the races to help his point score and give himself the best chance possible of being part of Team Australia at the Rotax Grand Finals in Spain in November.

“With this weekend and the Nationals left in the season, I am well and truly committed to maintaining my focus on finishing each and every race as high as I possibly can. Our goal is to certainly gain as many points as possible and if we could finish on the podium at the Nationals that would be an amazing achievement to finish the season,” Ojeda concluded.

The schedule for the weekend consists of practice on Friday, with one eight minute qualifying session and three 14 lap heats on Saturday before a 20 lap pre-final and 24 lap final on Sunday.

Round seven of the 2014 Rotax Pro Tour takes place at Coffs Harbour, NSW from July 18-20.
