Karting News Briefs

  • Newcastle Kart Racing Club is chasing information about the history of the club. "In the past there has been a Newcastle Cup, a Mattara Cup and a Phil Skelton Memorial" the club mentioned in its newsletter. "It is understood all of these awards are somewhere within the community. If you are aware of their location or can point us in the right direction, please message us."

  • The Yamaha KT100S has a long, looong history in karting. In fact, age wise, it qualifies for vintage racing! From a quality perspective, the Clubman class can still pull a strong field at a big event. But in many regions around Australia, the class is slowly falling apart. This is partly due to kart shops finding it easier to sell a ready-to-race TaG package. But it can also be argued KA's "possible replacement engine" program that is currently on hold, has also had a significant effect. An article, titled "Why the Yamaha KT100 Classes Remain Not Only Relevant but Growing" is doing the rounds in America at the moment. According to the article, use of the KT100S is once again growing in parts of the USA. The argument is the motor is still a perfect power source for budget racing that's easy to tune and reliable. • Supp Regs for the Australasian C&D Grade Titles are now available. The annual event at Morwell features a restricted entry - no A or B grade drivers, State Open of Closed Title holders, or past winners of the event (in each specific class) can enter. So that leaves plenty of scope for the C, D and P drivers to have a crack at an outright victory! Entry is first in, first served (full refund if the class fills, 24 kart grid). The meeting takes place on August 2 and 3. There is practice on Friday followed by a 3 heat then Final race format. See the Race Calendar page for more.

  • This gearbox rental kart is mad! Imagine letting Joe Public loose in this thing?!

  • The Newcastle Kart Club will be using their Cameron Park facility for more than just kart racing. A 'Skill Master' training day for motorcycle riders will be run on September 18. It is designed to help people develop good habits and gain confidence in the riding environment they are in the most - public roads, car parks, lane ways etc. The club is hoping it will be the first many regular courses at the track.

  • Victorian karter Sam Millar has finished second in the 'Ladies of Dirt' Wingless Challenge sprintcar series. Using her brother's car, Sam was 4th at Mid-Western Speedway on May 10, but suffered a mechanical problem in the first race at Alexandra Speedway the following weekend. A crank angle sensor had failed, causing her to miss the second heat. She recovered to 4th in the featue to take second in the series. “These past two weekends have been so much fun and have tough me so much about my driving" she said. "The two tracks were completely different with Mid-Western Speedway being small and hooky and Alexandra being big and fast. I would like to say a massive thanks to my mum and dad for helping organise everything and Travis for letting me race his car."

  • Extra soft IMAF seat range from DPE:
