The Wimmera Kart Club hosted Round 3 of the 2014 Austrans Victorian Country Series on May the 18th with around 150 entries received. The pit area along with the track had been worked over making the facilities look great.

The new surface on the last corner and the main straight had many drivers commenting that the surface was a lot smoother than previous years. There was a light drizzle of rain during a few heats on Sunday that helped make keep drivers and pit crews on their toes.

TAG 125 Heavy was the first class to race on the new surface and it was Corey McCullagh who would change his luck from round 2 to take the win in all 3 races. Scott King finished in second, with third place going to Simon Enright.

In Clubman Light it was Bradley Marsh-Stepney who would recover from a heat 1 DNF to beat home the always competitive Kyle Rethus who was the runner up. Matt Maher kept his good form going with third place.

Tom Owen had a very strong and consistent day in Junior National Heavy to take the win. Second place went to Jorja Ozimek with Taine Venables coming home third.

There were some new faces on the podium for Restricted 125 Heavy at this round. Taylor Gore taking the win this time from Luke Mason and Anthony Warner in second and third respectively.

Once again the Cadet class attracted the largest number of entries with 20 drivers looking for the win. That honour would go to second generation karter Matthew Domaschenz who came from the mid pack in the final to win. Second place went to Kai Allen who again had a strong meeting. Heat winner Hugh Barter finished in third place.

In the Rookies, Nathan Williams worked his way to the front in both his heat races before taking the win in the final. Jake Hutchen and Nicholas Schembri both had yet another good round with the pair finishing in second and third to boost their series points.

Restricted 125 Light saw Jaymi Mackay return to the series in the best way possible by taking the win. Jake Hose had another consistent showing with second place from Brock Rae in a strong third.

Leon Forrest took his second win for the series in Clubman Over 40’s. The battle for second saw Mark Cottrell and Ron Taylor battle over the final race distance. Taylor came out on top with Cottrell finishing in third place respectively.

TAG 125 Over 40’s saw Matt Parker take a comfortable win from heat 1 &2 winner Brian Ramsden in second place. Mick Angwin returned to the series to take third place.

The final of Junior Clubman saw one of the closest races of the day. Josh Denton and Dylan Hollis were never far apart for the entire final. Hollis gave his all in the last few laps to try and get the pass done, but it was Denton who would take the win. Third place went to Mitchell Mackay.

Once again it was Brayden Flood who would take a clean sweep of wins in Junior Max for the second consecutive round. Megan Vallance finished in second place.

Chris Thomas was another driver to make it 3 from 3 for the day in Clubman Heavy. Rounding out the last two podium positions were Andrew Cash in second and Heath Jelbart in third.

In TAG 125 Light, Kyle Rethus took a hard fought win from round 2 winner Luke Bergens who had yet another strong outing. Third place went to Justin Kaiser.

A new face on the Restricted 125 Super Heavy podium was Andrew Hayes. Hayes took the round win, thus ending Billy Askews 6 straight win tally. Second place went to Frank Ferraro with Askew finishing the day in third after no set up on the Saturday.

Junior National Light was dominated by Dylan Hollis. The newly crowned National Champion took a commanding win after having to drive hard through his heats to enable a front row starting position for the final. Jacob Dowson drove consistently for second with Cory Arnett finishing third.

The fourth round of the series moves to Hamilton on July the 13th.
