Callum Ilott (Zanardi) dominates the first round of the European Championship: 3rd place in the qualifying practice, 2nd after the qualifying heats (collecting the first important points for the overall standing as this year points are assigned to the top 10 drivers of the qualifying heats and the top 15 of the final).

In the Final phase he does an amazing double strike: 1st place in the Pre-Final leading from the first lap to the chequered flag, also with the best lap, and total dominion from the start to the finish line in the Final.

IAME does well also with Ilott’s mates: Martijn Van Leeuwen finishing 6th in the Final after a weekend where he is twice 3rd in the qualifying heats and recovers 13 places in the Pre-Final, while Tom Joyner is 10th at the finish line after an unstoppable climb of 15 positions from the qualifying practice.

Russian Nikita Sitnikov (Tony Kart) and Czech Karol Dabski (Praga) do also well, respectively finishing 11th and 13th.

The Swedish Johannes Heinonen also accesses the Final thanks to his result in the second chance heat and finishes 23rd.

Marino Sato (Praga), who enters the Final thanks to his result in the qualifying heats, recovers 8 positions and finishes 21st, but is then disqualified due to under-weight issues.

Jules Bollier, Ulysse De Pauw, Benjamin Lessennes (all three on Kosmic) and Daniel Ticktum (Zanardi) access the Final after the results of the qualifying heats.Bollier is 9th overall (recovering 7 places) and collects important points for the overall standing; Lucas Legeret (Zanardi) enters the Final thanks to his result in the second chance heat (5th) while his team mate Marta Garcia Lopez can’t do only for 3 positions.

In the “hot” phase of the event the IAME engines demonstrate their potential by feeding up amazing recoveries. De Pauw is the protagonist in the Pre-Final with a 2nd place achieved after recovering 15 positions. Ticktum is 11th after overtaking 11 opponents, while Legeret starts from the second to last position and finishes 18th.

The harshness of the Pre-Final penalises both Bollier (22nd) and Lessennes, the latter forced to leave at the first lap. In the Final the situation changes again: Ticktum is the best (10th), but the show comes from Lessennes: 15 positions recovered at the start, best lap, and 8th at the chequered flag. Too bad a penalty downgrades him to the 17th position in front of Legeret. Bad luck for De Pauw, forced to start over from the bottom, but recovering to the 15th position, and for Bollier, forced to withdraw at lap 6 after a contact.
