Muth Repeats Brother's Belgian Championship

press release 23 April 2014

O’Neill Muth joins his brother Esteban on the honours board for the Belgian Championship

Two years after his older brother Esteban, who was Belgian Mini Champion in 2012, O’Neill Muth has won the very same title. The young Brussels boy, who is still not 11 years old and new to the X30 Cadet class this year, dominated the class by winning five races out of six. If it had not been for a jump start in the first race of the season, he would have remained unbeaten. Most impressive!

For the second time in three years, the name Muth has appeared on the honours board for the Belgian Karting Championship. But after Esteban, who was Mini Champion in 2012, this time it is his younger brother O’Neill who dons the crown without much contest. “Two brothers named Belgian Champion, that doesn’t happen very often!”said John Muth, father of the two boys. “While Esteban is currently preparing for the international KF-Junior class competitions in Italy, O’Neill has proved that he has adapted quickly to the higher class.

Champion last year in the Mini class of the Belgian ASAF Karting Series, O’Neill is a newcomer this year to the X30 Cadet class, for 11-13 year-olds. And although the small Brussels lad, who will only be 11 in July, is one of the youngest in the pack, this has not prevented him from standing head and shoulders above the competition. After a first meeting at the end of March, where only a penalty for a jump start prevented him from posting a trio of wins, O’Neill performed even better at the second and last meeting, contested in Mariembourg alongside the X30 Europa Challenge. “Everything went very well,”smiled the young boy. “I took pole position, and then led the three races practically from start to finish. I also took three fastest laps, and with them three bonus points for the Championship. Really, it was a super weekend and I would like to thank my coach Tom Stevens for his valuable assistance in preparing my equipment perfectly and for all his advice. It’s a pleasure to have him by my side!”

These five wins in six races and this first national title have increased O’Neill’s motivation tenfold … as if he was not motivated enough! “I didn’t have much luck in the first round of the Belgian ASAF Karting Series,” he explains. “I finished second in the first race, and then I was hit by one of my adversaries and failed to finish. But I want to win in this championship as well. I still have four weekends of racing to make up for the poor start.

The rendezvous is already set for the second meeting, on 18 May, at the Francorchamps karting circuit!
