  • The passion of Patrizicorse - team video filmed at Ipswich's CIK round:

  • New from Intrepid for 2014 are these ceramic brake discs. The discs (pictured below, rear on the left, front on the right) require matching brake pads and according to Intrepid, offer a big advantage in braking efficiency due to lower operating temperature and less weight - around 70% lighter than standard. The lower rotating mass of the rear disc offers better acceleration and the reduced mass of the front discs lessens the gyroscopic effect on KF/KZ karts in fast bends. They are sold as sets or individually.

  • 2014 Triple Crown starts this weekend - three tracks over two weekends with a Deadly Kart giveaway:

  • Today is sir Jack Brabham's 88th birthday. The grinning (or grimmacing?) Brabham is in the #14 below as Bruce McLaren throws it up the inside when the two then-current F1 drivers took part in a kart race, circa 1960 (almost certainly when they were teammates at Cooper).

  • We ran with IKD's April Fools yesterday regarding a Pro Tour round on dirt at Parramatta Speedway. Overseas, another great karting April Fools was placed on the web by karting1.co.uk where they said they'd just got word that full rap-around bumpers will be made mandatory in 2015! Sad thing is, that might actually happen in years to come...

  • An electric kart championship will have a round run through the streets of Vancouver, Canada, later this year. That's the plan of G-Zero Championship Racing Series Inc, a company looking to combine the thrill of speed with the pursuit of a greener future in a revolutionary new format of motorsports. The battery-powered EVC Racing chassis will be fitted a 4-pole AC liquid cooled electric motor (93Nm of torque, 26kW driveline output) that will be speed limited to 113kmh. The karts will have a range of 16-24km with a 3-hour charge time. All up kart weight is 115kg. Series website is HERE.

  • But then there's rocket power... ("he made the curve!" lols):

  • The annual Great Barrier Reef Titles will be run at Whitsunday Raceway in June. This will be a great shakedown for the Queensland State Championships at the venue in July. Info Flyers for both events below:

  • Bundaberg's annual Top Dog Challenge is coming up later this month:
