Junior National Light was the biggest class. The young boys and girls in this class had some fearsome battles during the heats, with Declan Fraser (Mky) finishing on top when it counted in the final. He was followed home by Zacchary Patel (T/Ville) and Cohan Ogilvie (Mky).

Next biggest classes were the Cadets and Rookies again both classes provided excellent racing for all the spectators that came out to watch.  Young Mackay driver Riley Le Garde showed the rest of the Cadet field how it’s done, be winning every heat and the final to take home the winner’s trophy for the weekend, 2nd went to Qynn Andersen (Mky) and 3rd was Renyn Eisel (T/Ville).

Another local Mackay driver, Roland Legge has a big year planed with an opportunity to compete in F3 around the country as well as continuing to compete in his kart. Roland has had some great times in karts and has competed in State and National Titles over the last 5 years and this year will try his hand at the very fast F3 category - we all wish him luck and hope he can show the wider racing community how good some of the talent in Mackay really is.

He had his first  run in the F3 around the streets of Adelaide during the Clipsal event a few weeks ago, saying it took him most of the first race to learn the style required to control the car. He came back home to race at our Sugar Cities on the weekend and needed a few laps to get his head back into the karting style of racing, but by the final he was the class of the field and finished the day with another trophy for the case.

The next meeting for Mackay will be on Saturday 12th April. the meeting is part of a 3 race series, with race one being the weekend before (Sat 5th) in Townsville and the final on Sunday 13th at Proserpine’s track.

We hope to see good numbers at all three races with some great prizes on offer for the drivers that make the effort to come out and have a go. Hope to see you there!
