The focus of the Australian karting community will turn to the Newcastle region over the coming weeks as the 52nd Australian National Sprint Kart Championships to be held at the Newcastle Kart Racing Club on April 18-20 draws closer.

This weekend, competitors have travelled from all across New South Wales and interstate to gain valuable practice in the final lead-up event at the Cameron Park venue ahead of the National Championships.

“The Shakedown event provides the competitors with an opportunity to test themselves in race conditions as they prepare for the National Championships,” said Newcastle Kart Club’s Shaun Francis.

“We have got drivers coming from various parts of the State but also drivers from Queensland, Victoria and even South Australia for this weekend’s event to get valuable practice ahead of the Nationals.”

Next month’s event will be the first time the Newcastle Kart Racing Club has hosted the National Championships since 2001.  At that event, 2013 Bathurst 1000 Champion Mark Winterbottom was victorious in the Clubman Light class.

Racing will be contested on both Saturday and Sunday.

The Newcastle Kart Racing Club is located on Cameron Park Drive, Cameron Park.
