anything karting, anywhere...

  • The official names of the CIK classes in this year's Stars of Karting championship have changed. For 2014 the three 'pro' categories will reflect the title as required by the CIK - KZ2 replaces the former class name of Pro Gearbox (KZ2), KF2 replaces the former class name of Pro Light (KF) and KF3 replaces the former class name of Pro Junior (KF-J). Entries for the opening round at Ipswich later this month are now open. See the Race Calendar page for series and round Supp Regs. Link to the championship entry form (both CIK and support classes) HERE.

  • TaG Super Series points after round 1 can be found HERE (PDF).

  • I helped out my brother Grant at the Gippsland Kart Club's races at Morwell the other week. The kart came in from the morning carby session as per the photo below. I promptly accussed him of dropping a wheel off the edge of the circuit and covering it in dirt. He denied he'd been off track. "Yeah, right..." I murmured. On closer inspection, the filth on the kart is not dirt at all; it's soot and ash! The overnight wind direction caused talcum powder-like ash from the nearby fire in the Morwell open cut mine to coat the circuit - and everything else in town.

  • Thanks to the great support from DPE, the Emerald Kart Club will be offering a kart chassis as part of the Sterns Bulk Haulage 2014 Emerald Club Championship. The Championship is open to all AKA licence holders (regardless of which club you're a member of). It will cost $70 to enter which includes a series shirt. Every time you enter one of the eight club rounds, you'll get a ticket in the chassis draw. If you race 4 rounds you receive an extra bonus ticket, and do all eight rounds you'll get another bonus ticket! The prize chassis will be supplied to the corresponding class that the driver competes in during the year.

  • Former European karting champion Mats van den Brand has combined karting with rallying with the Gymkhana Dirt X-Kart featured in the video below. RaceXpress.nl report the 23-year old built the machine by modifying a 125cc Tm powered Intrepid gearbox kart. With the current tyres, it's good for 120km/h on dirt. He calls the machine X-kart (cross kart).
