A racing series for pre-2000 air-cooled 100cc karts is set to run in the UK this year. Maryann Horley of Kartlink published the following in her recent newsletter:

100cc racing returns

It's good to see a 100cc series scheduled for 2014 - Olly Scullion is driving forward a pre-2000 air cooled championship running with Retro Racer. He says it best:

Formula 100 (F100) is a Historic Kart Race Series, embracing what we believe was the finest and purest era of kart racing – the 1990s, specifically the classes Formula A and Intercontinental A, up to and including 1999.

The series will be exclusively running pre year 2000 karts using 100cc direct drive air cooled reed or rotary valve engines, and is aimed at competitors who wish to race this era of kart; it is NOT a demonstration events series.

The emphasis is on competitive, fair, safe, enjoyable, and affordable kart racing, and to re-live this special period in kart racings’ history. No clutch, no starter motor, no battery, no radiator, no pump, no rev limiter, no gears; pure, unadulterated karting at its very best."

Historic karting is great but bringing in karts from an era that today's thirty-something's can remember and maybe raced in can help to bring it to a new generation.
