Karting News Briefs

  • Pierce Lehane finished 12th at the Rotax Winter Cup in Spain on the weekend. Starting out of grid 21 for the pre-final, the Dan Holland Racing team driver moved forward to grab 12th at the flag. But that's where he stayed, unable to crack a top ten result. "Tough weekend to be topped off by an engine problem in final!" he wrote on Facebook. "Cheers to the whole team from DHR! We will keep pushing foward!" A few more photos of Pierce competing in Spain HERE.

  • An inquest into the death of 15-year old karter Jack Irvine has commenced in Victoria. After eating food that contained nuts at a VKA Junior Development Camp at Oakleigh in 2012, Jack tragically passed away in hospital several days later. More on theage.com.au HERE.

  • After many years competing at the highest level of karting in Australia and overseas, Jake Parsons will take over Sam Power's seat at Synergy Motorsport for the 2014 Formula Ford championship. Parsons was second in last year's NSW Formula Ford series. The 19-year old will carry backing from Eastern Creek Karts and Garage 88.

  • The Bathurst Kart Club has stated they are the newest addition to the list of Karting NSW (and thus the AKA) sanctioned karting clubs. We believe the club is pushing to have a track at Alec Lamberton Park. A noise technician will be doing a final report on the location soon.

  • A lot of work has been done at the Grenfell club's Bogolong circuit over the Christmas break. The new in-grid/scales shed is now all but complete, more road base has been laid in the pit area and there has been work done to various catch traps. Work is also underway on a new covered double concrete out grid. The club will hold its first round of the club championship this Sunday. The club's first major meet will be the 3rd round of the Southern Star Series in May. The annual Bar Up Bullbars Bob Hinde Memorial & Featival of the Kids is in June followed by the 2014 NSW Open State Championships on the October long weekend.
