Top Step for Gower at Junior Top Guns

George Gower took out Pole Position for the first night in the Cadet A Class of the annual Junior Top Guns at Oakleigh Go Kart Club last week.
With a field of 23, Gower took off in the first heat to eventually finish 3 seconds clear of his competitors. Heat two was a similar outcome although the margin cut back to 1.5 seconds as the chasing pack organised themselves to try and chase him down.
Starting on Pole for the final and determined to make it a clean sweep for the day, George was shadowed by New Zealand's Thomas Boniface for 15 laps. Coming in the Arrow, at the last corner, Thomas slipped up the inside to deny his goal, close finish, 3 hundredths of a second

Day Two
Some technical issues in qualifying placed Gower on the second row (4th). With a great start he finds himself in P2 shadowing Boniface for 7 laps, three to go he makes his move to the front, looking like he wants to right the mistake made the night before. Last lap and Boniface is looking to line up the same move. Not this time, another very close finish, 4 hundredths of a second.
Heat two was a small disappointment, first corner incident saw Gower and Barter get turned around and facing the pack. Positive drive back from last to eventually finish 7th. Boniface also came undone with a dropped chain one lap to go.
Final, P2. Red flag saw Boniface and Purdie excluded from the restart, Gower and Braydon Callaghan the local Oakleigh driver take up the battle leaving the rest of the field to fight it out for the minor places. With a lap to go Callaghan made a move only to be held out by Gower to come home first by another tight margin
2nd, 1st and the Overall win.
So all-in-all a very successful night and start to the 2014 season for the young Geelong Kart Club driver.
