55 Potential Stars At Lithgow Junior Development Clinic

Combined Districts Kart Club's tag line is “birthplace of champions”, with motor racing stars such as Mark Winterbottom, James Courtney, Joseph Mawson and Dean Canto all starting their careers as members of the club.

Last week, 55 new potential motorsport stars attended the Junior Development Clinic at CDKC in Lithgow.

The kids and their parents survived the extreme heat conditions over two days participating in a range of on and off track tuition lead by champions Jason Varley and Michael Hazelton. This event was aimed at new karters, and gave them insight into kart preparation and set up, nutrition, flags, how to grid up, the best lines to take around the circuit and the importance of making it fun and meeting new friends.

The event was then followed by a Juniors only race meeting on Saturday, which allowed the youngsters to put into practice what they had learnt at the clinic. With over 80 competitors, it was a great start to our racing calendar.

One of Australia’s international exports, Joseph Mawson, attended the race meeting and was able to give the juniors some advice on how to make it to the top. The juniors sat and listened in awe, knowing that Joseph attended this same clinic in 2006 sitting where they are now. He has now made his mark overseas and CDKC would like to wish him all the best in 2014 when he continues his professional motor racing career in Europe.

Just maybe one of these young drivers will follow in the footsteps of the champions that started as they did at CDKC?
