Whyalla Kart Club Celebrates

by Jeremy Head 21 January 2014

2014 is already proving to be a huge year for the Whyalla Kart Club.  With the race season about to get underway the club has seen a surge of new members in most race classes. It has also drawn interest from Port Lincoln drivers who look like they might be travel to Whyalla to race and work on getting their track to race standard.  This is only good for karting in a regional area.

The club recently held a practice day and this was attended by 12 local drivers including new seniors Scott Harper and Ricky Johnson.  The day also saw the arrival of new Cadet driver, Cadence Florentinus. The day was also attended by drivers from Port Lincoln who appreciated the help and support from the local club members and officials who helped check their karts ready for the new race year.

However without a doubt the highlight for the year so far has been the announcement that the Whyalla Kart Club has been successful in receiving a grant from the Department of Recreation and Sport.

The grant has been approved to allow for solar power upgrades to the clubroom facilities and also to improve the track lighting.  Once this lighting upgrade has taken place the Whyalla Kart Club will be only the second club in South Australia to run night race meetings.  Hopefully with the introduction of night racing more spectators will attend the club to see some close racing across all classes.

The new race season commences on the 1st of February 2014 at the Whyalla Kart Club, Lincoln High Way.  Entry is free and you are more than welcome to come into the pit area and talk to the drivers and look at the karts up close. Racing starts at 12:30.
