The annual Brian Farley Memorial race meeting at Eastern Creek is coming up on February 1 and 2. The following was supplied by the NSKC to give karters a brief about who Brian was and what he did for the sport.

Supp Regs for the meeting, which runs in reverse direction and has a Pro Clubman feature class with $3500 of cash on offer, are on he Race Calendar page.

For many who have been around karting for many years, would remember the passion and commitment Brian Farley had for the sport of Karting and more specifically the technical side of our sport. Often seen walking the pits with his Akubra hat, Brian spent every weekend at a track somewhere across the country.

For those who didn’t know Brian, his love of the sport of karting first started when his eldest son Troy started racing at Oran Park in the early 80’s as a Rookie. For many years Brian and Troy, along with younger sibling Glen, travelled the country racing various race meetings. During this time, Brian was building Troy’s engines along with a select group of racers. It was through this that Brian developed an interest in the technical aspects of our sport.

In the early 90’s Brian was volunteering his time with the NSW Technical team; he was driven to see improvements not only in the rules governing our sport but also the process which they were implemented.

In early 2000 Brian turned his attention to the national level heading up the National Technical team. During his time heading up the team, Brian implemented a number of significant changes to the technical team such as training and also processes used for event engine measuring - many of which are still used today.

In the last two year’s prior to his sudden passing, Brian assumed the position of National Vice President. It was hoped that with his technical expertise and strong business acumen that Brian would be able to help steer the sport of karting through to a strong future.

Brian was equally passionate of the North Shore Kart Club. There were very few club meetings that Brian would not be at, often seen at the fence line watching his favorite class Clubman Light. This year marks the 9th year of Brian’s passing.

The North Shore Kart Club will be holding the 8th Annual Brian Farley Memorial. The event will be held at the Eastern Creek International Karting Raceway on the 1st and 2nd of February, 2014.
