karting bits 'n' pieces...

  • New Zealand will be running a 'restricted' KZ2 Gearbox class in the country's premier ProKart series in 2014. The category will use spec engine tuning and axle. "While considered the ultimate place of battle of the country's elite, many new KZ2 competitors have kept away from the ProKart Series due to the competitor not having the initial race pace" class promoter, Steve Brown, stated. The solution, he is hoping, is this second-tier category. More on the Kartsport NZ site HERE.

  • CRG will field a factory team in next year's Euro MAX Challenge. The Italian manufacturer will enter drivers in all Rotax categories (Junior Max, Senior Max and DD2) and is currently working on the driver lineup. The team's first race will in Spain at the Winter Cup of Campillos in February. This will be followed by the first round of the Euro Challenge in Genk (Belgium) on April 6, then Castelletto (Italy, June 1), Zuera (Spain, July 20) and Salbris (France, September 7).

The theft his the local news website which has the machine valued at £10,000 (almost AUS $17,000!). That's a lot of freight for a Cadet Easykart. Full article HERE.

  • Formula 1 technology for karting - French company LDL Technology has developed "Tire Watch", a device that fits a sensor to each rim via the exisitng valve stem and feeds pressure and temperature data, in real time, back to an on-board dash. Each sensor is very light (requires no wheel re-balance) and can alert the driver via LEDs if there is a problem, such as loss of pressure. Data can also be transmitted to engineers and team members to assist them with chassis adjustments and setup.

  • Final round of the Golden Power Series will be held at Puckapunyal on November 9-10. All 15 classes are on offer with tight point scores in several which will be decided on the final day. Saturday night will be the series' customary spit roast for all drivers who have competed in all five rounds. The tickets will be given out on Friday and Saturday with entry confirmation if possible. Other people who wish to attend the meal can purchase tickets. A special part of the night is the random draw prizes for all classes - but you have to be in attendance to win the prizes!
