Champions Crowned In Western Australia

The 2013 Western Australian Karting Champions were crowned at the Cliffs Natural Resources State Championships in Esperance on Sunday.

Following three days of frantic racing, the championship finals saw a number of drivers continue their dominance while others snared the victory by the narrowest of margins.

After securing her maiden victory in a blue-ribbon event earlier in the year at the Northern Territory Championships, Tayla Dicker made a last corner pass for the victory in the Junior National Heavy category.

In a frantic battle throughout the 22-lap championship final, Dicker diced with the likes of Oliver Baxter, Ben Harders, Braedyn Bower and Bayley Bell near the front of the final. When the chequered flag fell it was Dicker who crossed the line first in her Flatout Karts Arrow ahead of Bowra and Baxter.

The KartForce trio of Adam Levi, Kip Foster and Scott Foster ran at the front of the Leopard Light final with Geraldton’s Nathan Davis in fourth place. While Foster shadowed Levi’s every move over the closing stages, it was Foster’s protégé who took the win.

Geraldton’s Mason Patience proved too good in the Cadets category, for drivers aged between 7 and 11 years old, while Brenton Magri claimed a popular victory in the Clubman Heavy ranks ahead of Matt Davis.

After last year claiming the Cadets category at the corresponding event, Keb Evans continued his winning form in the Rookies class this weekend. Evans only crossed the line first in one event, but it was the one that mattered most – the final. Finishing second behind Evans was Brock McGregor with Victorian Nathan Williams rounding out the top three.

Jesse Elliott was one of seven drivers to remain undefeated throughout the weekend when he was victorious in the Rotax Light category. Other drivers who were undefeated all weekend in their respective categories were Bayley Mickler (Leopard Heavy), Nikola Mitic (Junior National Light), Nathan Davis (Clubman Light), Rob Landsmeer (Over 40s), James French (Senior National) and Thomas Howe (Junior Clubman).

Esperance Kart Klub’s Delcia Hubble was delighted with running of the event and believes that all the travelling competitors enjoyed their time in the region.

“We had people from all across the state and several from interstate come to the Esperance region to support this event and it has been fantastic to have them in our region,” said Hubble.

“Win, lose or draw everyone was here to have a good time and that’s what happened across the weekend.

“A big thank you must go to all of the Esperance Kart Klub members who put in hundreds of hours preparing the venue and also to Cliffs Natural Resources and all of the other sponsors of the event who made it all possible.”

Next year’s Western Australian State Championships will be hosted by the Midwest Kart Club in Geraldton on October 3-5, 2014.
