Whyalla Club Series, Round 7

by Jeremy Head 1 October 2013

Whyalla Kart Club held round 7 of its nine round competition on September 28th.

Things are getting tight at this time of year with drivers and karts starting to beg for the break.  This was evident with a number of break downs or karts not performing as well as they have in the past rounds.

This round also saw the debut of local 125 and Sportsman SA driver Chris Reid’s daughter, Lilly.  Lilly only turned seven two weeks ago and hit the track like an old pro.  I would like to congratulate the Cadet drivers for giving Lilly space and encouraging her over the race day.  It is kids like you all that are the future of our club and you all showed us how strong the club will be in the future.

All though the numbers were down and the spectators were also few and far between, the racing was as close as ever with drivers rubbing side pods on more than one occasion and lead changes happening left right and center.

The racing of the day was definitely the combined TaG125/Clubman Light Class with Dennis Cumerlato and Chris Reid coming down to who ever finished first in the final was the winner over the day.  This is as close as it gets.  The victor on this occasion was Chris Reid and I can tell you Dennis Cumerlato will not be letting him get away with another one in the future. These guys changed the lead so often over the day you would have thought that they were racing for their lives.

Congratulations to all drivers over the weekend. Next round is November 9th with the month of October being rest month due to Masters Games and other karting events around the nation.
