Karting Decisions From FIA WMSC Meeting

At its meeting on 28th June 2013 at Goodwood, UK, the World Motor Sport Council of the FIA made the following decisions on the basis of the proposals of the International Karting Commission:

Amendments to the Sporting Regulations

Academy Trophy, Articles 20, 21 and 23:

  • Removal of the Final "B" and extension of the scoring scale for the 34 drivers who are now allowed to participate in each race the finals.
  • Tyres: The Manufacturer chosen after the tender will provide the slick tyres with barcode and wets to each specification in exchange for a voucher presented by the competitor. The tyres will be drawn and labeled with the competitor number. Unmarked and non-unpacked rain tyres will be taken at the end of meeting.
  • The measurement of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) from the surface of the tyres with a device MiniRAE Lite, from qualifying to the finals, should not exceed 15 ppm.
    Immediate application.

Specific requirements:
Article 20 on "Ties between Drivers' has been modified to be consistent with the different Championship formats. The greatest number of first places in Race 1, Race 2, or Finals, according to the corresponding format, will decide any tie. If necessary, the second largest number of places, the third, etc ... will make the difference. If there is still a tie, the highest number of first places (or second, or third, ...) in the pre-finals will be used. If the tie remains perfect, the highest place in the last final of the last event will be decisive.

Amendments to Homologation Regulations

Racing overalls for drivers, section 8.11:
The approval of overalls for kart drivers is the subject of a new procedure corresponding to the introduction of the new N2013 standard and leading to a new label. Overalls can be used for up to five years from their date of manufacture.
The materials used for making overalls (leather or textile) must comply with ISO and EN standards currently in force concerning their resistance to various stresses (tear strength, abrasion, heat, cleaning, dyeing, safety components, comfort ... ) and ensure quality and protection higher than in the past, with a classification by activity, level 1 for leisure and level 2 for competition.
Date of mandatory implementation of the new standard: 01/01/2014. Production of overalls according to the old standard will not be allowed from 01/02/2014.

Amendments to the Technical Regulations

General requirements for Karts in Group 1 and Group 2, sections 4.2.3 and 5.2.1 respectively for KZ1 and KZ2 engines: adding inserts in the pipes is now an unauthorized change. Article 12 covers KZ1 and KZ2, the crankcase must consist of two parts. Only inserts for crankshaft bearings and fastening elements (thread, the centering pin) are allowed.
