Round Two Serves Up Supreme Racing

Round two of the Club Championship for the North Shore Kart Club produced some fantastic racing with one hundred plus karts in attendance. Even though the day started late due to fog didn’t dampen what was a tremendous days racing.

As always the Cadets produced some wonderful racing and hat shifted to another gear once they reached the final with a three way fight for the top spot. Benito Montalbano, Kasey Szymkow and Zachary Heard all went tooth and nail for the win. The lead changed multiple times throughout the ten lap final, but it was Montalbano that held on for a nose to tail win, ahead of Szymkow with series leader Heard rounding out the top three and continuing to lead the standings equal with Jackson Walls.

Junior National Heavy proved to be eventful throughout the day. Samuel Schwarz was the class act all day taking a clean sweep. Harry Hayek had a close fight with Stephanie Stones and Darian Scott in the final, but he was able to grab second in the closing stages. Stones came home for third after swapping positions with Darian Scott on the final lap. The win now gives Schwarz a thirty point lead in the standings.

Senior National proved to be a battle of two between Sarah Collins and Brayden Prichard. The two worked together all day and for most of the final until a coming together at Grandstand corner put them both out of the race and handed the race win to Iain Thornton. Nathan Bond and Willam Powers were second and third respectively with Edward Cranswick and Eugene May rounding out the top five. Prichard continues to lead the standings over Nathan Bond and William Powers.

In the closest race of the day, Carey Alexander took a side by side win to take out the final for Junior National Light. Carey and Anthony Wiskich changed positions multiple times throughout the closing stages but it was Alexander holding on for a 0.019 sec win. Jett Bennett had a consistent day coming home third with Tyra Maranik and Luca Krkovski completing the top five. Alexander now extends his margin to thirty seven points in the club championship.

Clubman Light proved to be a great battle between three of the powerhouse names, Jaie Robson, Reece Davidson and Jordan Zammit. With two laps to go they were three wide heading into the final corner ending with Zammit going off the track briefly. Robson held on for a remarkable win over Davidson and Zammit.

In the Heavy class it was Aaron Borg continuing on his dominant start to 2013 by clean sweeping round two.

In the Tag 125 Light class it was a classic Rotax vs Leopard duel all day with the Rotax's of Bryce Davidson and Kuross Amri vs the Leopard of Jacob Parsons. Bryce and Jacob shared the heat wins with Jacob starting the final on pole care of his win in the pre final. The final saw Jacob lead until Bryce took the lead in the Carousel at half race distance and pulled awayy to take the final win. Jacob Parsons and Kuross Amri then had a great fight to finish second and third respectively.

In the Heavier class it was Craig Stauner dominating the field to take a two second win over Denham Ballantyne and Mark Brunker.

In the Rookies class it was Cody Brewczynski taking a four second lead to take round two honors. Jack Winter then led home a wonderful six way fight for second that saw Travis Worton, Kyle Bonser and Brodie Whitmore completing the top five. With a clean sweep of the day Brewczynski is able to extend his margin on top of the standings to over forty points.

After starting out of ninth, Mitch Boulden came through for a dramatic win in TaG Restricted Light. Rishikeshan Sabesan held on for second after he had mechanical dramas right towards the end, and after almost spinning his car on the final lap, Dean Buchanan came home for third on the podium. Buchanan leads the standings, only three points clear of Boulden.

TaG Restricted Heavy was taken out by Kris Matich. Simon Kendrick came home second and closed in on Matich right towards the end of the race, but it wasn’t enough. Peter Price completed the top three. In the Over 40’s Gerald Chait took the final win in his debut in the class.

The next round of the Club Championship for the North Shore Kart Club takes place on Sunday 2nd June as the championship moves to the 846m track for the winter months. Carby sessions start at 8:00 and racing kicks off at 8:30.
