  • Vintage kart races will be a feature of this year's Rock Island Grand Prix. Previously, vintage karts from the 50s through to the 80s have run in 'exhibition' races on the street circuit, but this year will participate in actual racing. “We believe ours is one of the few places in the world where vintage and modern-day karts will race at the same venue,” said Roger Ruthhart, RIGP president.

  • A new junior class has been introduced in Britain. "Junior Tyro" is a category designed to keep cost and compexity at a minimum. The karts us an all-weather 'Heidenau' brand tyre (no need to own slicks and wets) with the idea that the package is designed to keep pace while still allowed to slide, and not have to be driven straight and on rails all the time. The category uses a Gillard chassis fitted a mechanical brake, electric start Radne Racket 95 engine and even goes back to using cheap but effective pressed flange rear axle bearing mounts (as opposed to fancy alloy 'cassettes').

  • The Southern Star Series committee is agressively spruiking their Wagga round after the cancellation of the 3rd round of the NSW Metro State Cup!

  • A new adidas contingency award has been added to the CIK Stars of Karting Series. The adidas All Star Award will presented to a driver in one of the three Pro classes who has put in an outstanding performance at each round. The lucky driver will receive their choice of a pair of adidas motorsport Kart XLT boots or adistar gloves following each round. More info on the series website HERE. As mentioned here last Saturday, adidas motorsport apparel is being distributed in Australia by Jack Perkns' Perkins Motorsport.
