kartings bits from anywhere...

  • A reminder that entries close this Friday, March 8, for the 51st AKA National Championships. Also, camping is available at the track for the whole week of the Nationals for $250. Camping requests are to be made by noting this on the pit allocation forms when entering. "We are also having a spit roast on Friday,  qualifying day. Cost is around $17 and the bar will be open in the club's new canteen" Ian Williams informed KartSportNews.

Above: As part of the build-up to the Nationals, SA's Tim Slade, Nick Percat and Scott Pye had a run at the Monarto circuit prior to the Clipsal 500. Here the trio is photographed with a number of other South Australian karting drivers and identities.

  • A photo gallery from the weekend's Rotax Pro Tour round at rainy Lithgow has been published on the Pro Tour Facebook page HERE.

  • Note that the Oakleigh club's "Seniors Only" Southern City Classic in April runs on Saturday the 6th, not Sunday the 7th as originally published. This is a day-night meeting that promises lots of laps. Links to the Supp Regs for this and many other race meetings can be found on the KartSportNews Calendar page.

  • Cooloola Coast Kart Club has had to postpone this weekend's race meeting due to track closure as a result of the recent flooding. It is expected the circuit will be closed for a couple more weeks. The club would like to thank all members and their families for the help and support during the flood clean-up in February.

  • Another postponed event due to flooding and crazy weather is this weekend's annual "The Yamaha" at Coffs Harbour. A new date for the meeting, which features Yamaha-only classes, will be advised.

  • Tasmanian karters are being encouraged to offer "feedback and ideas on open race meeting structure moving forward from the SWS (State Wide Series)". With clubs having committee meetings this week, the AKA Tas is hoping competitors will attend these meetings and provide information they feel is relevant to class structure, TaG v Sportsman - including tyres and weights, qualifying, timetabling of meetings etc.

  • IKD wish to clarify yesterday's announcement about competitors being penalised 1000 ranking points for not attending trophy presentation. This is only applicable to competitors who are to receive a trophy or prize at a Pro Tour round or the Rotax Nationals. The driver must attend the prize giving wearing their full race suit.

  • The 'Become One' karting documentary premiered in Texas on Friday night. "The film is the most incredible piece of karting promotion that I've seen in my 20 years in the sport" ekartingnews editor said on ekartingnews. "The footage is incredible, and the interviews with promoters, racers, parents and shop owners perfectly support the message and add personality to the presentation. This is the film that you are going to be able to use to show your friends who just don’t quite get what you do." The film is set to be publically available by April 1. The promo trailer is below:
