Positive Messages For CIK

Judging from the comments on Kartbook, the drivers who participated and others associated with the event, it would appear that the opening round of the 2010 CIK Stars of Karting Championship was a success.

While KartSportNews is not the forum for discussing and debating these matters (go to kartbook.net for that), we did receive messages from the series organiser, Peter Galvin, and one of the country's most prominent and successful karters, Kel Treseder. Their comments below:

On behalf of the International Karting Council and the CIK Stars of Karting Series I would like to sincerely thank the manufacturers, teams and drivers who were a part of the opening round in the 2010 CIK Stars of Karting Series in Newcastle.

The professionalism shown by all drivers and team in attendance was unbelievably pleasing for not only myself but also Lee Hanatschek, who is as passionate about this series being a success as what I am, the entire International Karting Council and the members of the National Karting Council of the Australian Karting Association.

To Tony D’Annible and the members of the Newcastle Kart Racing Club did an amazing job to ensure the meeting was such as success and with the influx of potential new karters flocking to the circuit I hope that the benefits from the event will continue to flow in for them over the coming months as people turn their taste of the sport into becoming racing members.

I would also like to thank our series Clerk of Course Chris Robinson for his hard work leading up to and throughout the meeting, along with the officials of the meeting, to ensure everything ran as smoothly as possible

In closing, I hope that we have started the ball rolling on a series that everyone in the karting community can be proud of and I can’t wait to get to round two in Ipswich.

Regards

CIK Stars of Karting Series

Round 1 at Newcastle is complete and firstly I would like to say I have been involved in karting both on and off the track now for 18yrs and the opening round of the Stars of Karting series was the best race meeting I have ever been involved with in my carrier. It was like an F1 event – unbelievable excitement.

We (AKA, Drivers & Promoters) need to band together and get right behind this series to help the forward movement of this sport.

The best thing about the weekend was the professionalism of the CIK show in Newcastle. I still can’t believe the amount of general public, families etc who showed up on both Saturday and Sunday to watch the Pro Classes. NKRC had spectators milling around the pits and hugging the fence line while Pro Classes where on the track. I’m sure all those people now have a different respect for the pro drivers and kart racing as a whole.

This shows how marketable kart racing can be when CIK championship rounds are run properly and the media come on board both locally and nationally. The V8 supercar series have gone down this road with promoting their championship and are now one of the most popular sports in the country. We have the same fundamentals with tracks, drivers & karts so let’s get our sport moving to the next level.

The format of 3 pro classes was great. I would like to see the AKA promoters not push the likes of both the Rotax Pro Tour and Leopard Series. All  these national series races do is fragment all of our best drivers into different groups and doesn’t build any platform for the sport. I have nothing against both engine importers (Remo & Ian) but I can honestly see all these separate championships do is hurt further growth.

We need to send some strong messages through to the top drivers and teams in our sport, that if you’re not involved in CIK Championship rounds you’re not racing in top level kart racing. If we have all the nation’s top drivers in one championship, the series and profile of karting will be incredibly high and the racing would be amazing. We may even see some of the Junior karters looking to aim towards racing CIK and looking up to senior CIK drivers.

It would be great to see Aussies racing the world championships again one day. I can see our great drivers staying in kart racing, why would you do anything else??

My opinions are only based on the top level of our sport and I understand not everyone can race CIK, however if we fix the elite level the rest of the classes will sort themselves out in time.

Thanks again for a great show and please don’t lose this series.

Regards,
Kel Treseder
