Juniors Set To Shine At Pucka

AKA press release

One of the top blue ribbon events for junior kart racers in Australia, the Junior Sprint Classic, will be held at the Hume International Raceway in Puckapunyal, Victoria on September 13/14.

The event, which has been running for almost two decades, has seen some of the best young drivers converge on the 1067 metre circuit to race wheel to wheel at speeds of up to 100 km/h.

All of the drivers competing at the event aren’t old enough to hold a road licence, however, many have been learning the art of car control and driving techniques since the age of seven.

It is at events such as the Junior Sprint Classic where the drivers such as current V8 Supercar star Jamie Whincup, who win the Rookies category in 1994 and 1995, learnt valuable lessons behind the wheel.

The highlight of the event is the ‘Champion of Champions’ race where the top 24 finishers in the elite Junior Clubman category will battle it out in a 15-lap feature for the honour of becoming the overall Junior Sprint Champion.

“The Junior Sprint Classic is an event which has evolved over the years to become on the biggest and most prestigious events on the calendar for a junior driver,” said Event Co-ordinator Melinda Sanderson.

“This year we will have close to 200 competitors, both boys and girls, ranging in age from seven years old through to 16 from a variety of regions across the country competing.

“Each year we try to make it a very enjoyable event for everyone involved and this year we have got heaps of prizes and giveaways for the entrants in all categories.”

In total there will ten categories of racing across the Midgets, Rookies, Junior National and Clubman classes with the winner in each taking home a set of Dunlop tyres.
