Superkart Nationals - Qualifying and Race 1

The South Australians are stamping their claim on the 2008 Non-Gearbox Superkart Nationals being held at Phillip Island over the weekend.

Rotax Light drivers Michael Rogers, Tim Scarman and Shaun Jones locked out the top 3 positions in qualifying, with Rogers and Scarman driving away from the field in the opening heat, Rogers taking the win.

Fellow South Australian Ryan Felmingham poled Rotax Heavy. Felmingham, Mark Wicks and Rod Clarke battled for the lead, Wicks taking a narrow win. Clarke was lucky not to be injured after contact with Felmingham sent him into the concrete pit wall, the TWR driver carding third in class as he slid across the line backwards in a shower of sparks!

Canberra's Sean Whitfield was fastest junior qualifier, but locked up an engine at the end of session 1. Rhys Newman (South Oz) won the opening race.
