Queenslanders Head Pro Tour Charge

press release 6 May 2017

Queenslander Harrison Hoey has led junior proceedings in the opening day of the Rotax Pro Tour round three at Ipswich, winning two of the three heat races this afternoon.

The Comp Kart Australia driver put in a confidence boosting performance on home soil to score the pole position and then convert that to two race wins. He was well on the way to a third victory until he was denied by New Zealander, Ryan Wood who has been impressive throughout the weekend thus far.

In a good weekend for the Hoey family, Harrison’s sister Jacinta has been applying herself well to the Junior Max Trophy category. She has ended two of the three races today in second position and had her Pre-Final starting position thwarted with a mechanical issue at the start of the second heat.

The Junior Max Trophy class - which is the Rotax Pro Tour’s single-make entry level junior category that uses the Intrepid Freedom chassis - saw last round winner Russell Mayo take two heat race wins whilst the second was won by Angus Wallace.

Another Queenslander and Ipswich Kart Club local, Chris Farkas has proved dominant in the Rotax 125 Heavy category.

With he and last round winner, Kris Walton being evenly matched during qualifying - Farkas in his Tony Kart has shown the opposition a clean set of wheels.

DD2 round two winner, Joshua Car has continued his good form at Ipswich. After setting the pole position, the New South Wales-based Comp Kart driver took two comprehensive heat wins. He was well on the way to a third before Tom Williamson Motorsport Kosmic driver, Cody Gillis edged his way past for the win to round out the day.

Victorian Praga Kart driver, Jack Westbury is the driver to beat in Mini Max. The youngster has skipped away to three very strong wins throughout the day.

James Wharton, Hugh Barter and Hugo Simpson are all in the mix and an inter-team battle between a slew of EvoKarts has been entertaining throughout the heat racing.

Points leader, Harry Arnett has taken two heat race wins in Micro Max, however Jake Rutkowski in his EvoKart has put in a strong run - and upset Arnett for the first heat race win - putting on a stunning outside move in the early stages of the first heat.

In Rotax Light, Cameron Longmore ended the day with the pole position and two heat race wins. Longmore is looking very strong. Initially, it looked as though it was going to be a Brad Jenner benefit once again. However, Jenner was involved in an incident in the second heat that dropped him to the rear of the field.

DD2 Masters is poised as a big battle throughout several heavy hitters. The heat races have been shared between Daniel Richert, Matthew Wall and Troy Woolston.

The racing has been extremely hard throughout the category and no clear favourite has emerged.

Tomorrow, Pre-Finals and Finals will be conducted. Ipswich Kartway is located at Champions Way, Willowbank and entry is free to the public.
