Dylan's Double Delight At Australian Titles

Winning one Australian Title is special, but winning two is remarkable, and that’s exactly what Dylan Goodger achieved recently at Ballarat’s Redline Raceway in Victoria, taking out both the 125cc Non-Gearbox and 125cc Gearbox Australian Speedway Kart Titles.
Off the back of winning the Victorian Title in 125cc Gearbox at Redline Raceway the previous weekend, which was an ideal prelude to his Australian Title campaign, Goodger continued his winning form, successfully defending his 125cc Non-Gearbox Australian Title, having won last season’s running of the event at Tamworth’s Oakburn Park Speedway in NSW.
Hoping to improve on his 2015 runner-up finish in the 125cc Gearbox Australian Title at Waikerie’s Sunline Speedway in South Australia, Goodger this season managed to go one better, scoring a comfortable victory and dashing Phil Perrett’s hopes of an Australian Title hat trick.
“Winning one Australian Title is an amazing feeling, let alone two, so I couldn’t be happier at the moment,” expressed a pleased Goodger, whose team travelled from Western Sydney in NSW to run in the hotly-contested event.
“Being able to share the podium with dad, who finished third in the Victorian Title and second in the 125cc Non-Gearbox Australian Title, was something really special. It was a huge effort to make the trip down to Victoria, so to be able to achieve these results as a team certainly makes all of the big effort worthwhile.”
Getting his 125cc Non-Gearbox Australian Title defence off to a consistent start on Saturday, Goodger finished second to his dad, Ray, in his opening two heat races, before scoring a win in heat race three. Making the decision to change engines overnight, due to a lack of power, Sunday’s final heat race didn’t go according to plan for Goodger, who blew his new engine, recording a DNF.
Lining up third for the 20-lap feature race, despite dropping a heat, with rattled confidence and using his dad’s spare engine, Goodger led a composed race, making his way into the lead by lap five where he was never headed, going on to collect a convincing win.
Qualifying on pole position for the 125cc Gearbox Australian Title-deciding feature race, after two wins and two seconds during his heat races, Goodger lost out to defending and two-time Australian Champion Perrett from the drop of the green flag, but he managed to take control of the lead 11 laps later. Settling in to first place, Goodger couldn’t be stopped once out in front, going on to take his second Australian Title crown of the weekend.
For his next appearance, Goodger will contest the All Powers Nationals at Mildura’s Olympic Park Speedway in Victoria on the Friday and Saturday nights of May 19 and 20.
