Mackay's Burridge Family Memorial

from David Sturgeon 7 February 2017

The Mackay Kart Club threw open the gates on another year of racing on Saturday 4th February.

It was our first race meeting for the year, the Burridge Family Memorial. The event is run in memory of Mark Burridge who was a junior member who lost his life in a tragic road accident in 2011.

He would have been 20 this year and a seasoned racer. Mark is pictured below with his collection of trophies.

We had a good field of juniors on track with Mackay driver Riley Beggs having a good day winning every heat and the final to take home the memorial shield.

Close behind was Cairns driver Ryan Phipps coming home second and Whitsunday Motosport driver Lara Hadlow a deserved third for the day.

The class to watch was certainly Cadet 12. Damian White was doing his level best to hunt down and pass Dominic Attard all day with wins in two heats and the final. A bad result in the first heat for Damian was enough for Dominic to amass the points needed to win the day, but he will have to be on his game next time out as Damian seems to have found a sweet spot with his kart and engine package early on in the year.

Young Keelan O’Brien was the next fastest on track bringing home the third place medallion. Could be an interesting battle for the Club Championship in the Cadet 12 class this year!

Next event will be the first round of the NQ Series (11th March) which will double as the shake down for the first round of the QLD State Championships (April 7,8,9). We hope to see lots of drivers on track at these events - check out our web site and Facebook page to keep up to date.
